Ingredients

6 Tbsp brown sugar $0.24
1 29 oz can pumpkin purée* $2.74
2 Tbsp maple syrup $0.48
¼ cup apple juice** $0.06
1 tsp lemon juice $0.02
2 tsp pumpkin pie spice $0.38
¼ tsp cinnamon $0.02
⅛ tsp sea salt $0.01
½ tsp vanilla extract $0.32

Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan.
Simmer on low heat for 25 min, whisking often.
The color will darken slightly as it simmers. Keep whisking to prevent burning.
Once a smooth, thick texture is achieved with a deeper color, you’re done!

*It may seem like using pumpkin pie filling in a can is an easy substitute, but they add water and additional ingredients that don’t yield the same texture.
