Ingredients

3 Granny Smith apples peeled, and medium dice, (3 cups, 660g uncut) $2.39
3 Honey Crisp apples peeled, and medium dice, (3 cups, 625g uncut) $4.49
½ cup granulated sugar 110g, $0.19
2 tsp ground cinnamon $0.10
⅛ tsp ground nutmeg $0.01
⅛ tsp salt $0.01
1 box yellow cake mix 15.25 oz. box, $1.12*
1 cup butter melted, (2 sticks) $1.21

Instructions

Gather and prepare all ingredients. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
Peel and cut the apples into medium-sized cubes and place them in a 9x13 oven-safe dish.
Pour the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt on top of the apples and toss to coat. Spread out evenly to fit the pan.
Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the apples, covering them completely.**
Evenly pour the melted butter over the cake mix, covering as much as possible.
Bake in the oven for 45-50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
Remove the apple dump cake from the oven and enjoy.

Notes

*You can also use a white cake box mix. I use the Great Value deluxe moist yellow box cake from Walmart, which is a richer, denser, and more moist cake. The white box cake will be more delicate and fluffier. You can even try a spiced cake box mix.

**I know your instinct is to mix everything together, but DON’T! It’s called “dump” cake for a reason. Just layer the ingredients and pop it in the oven.
